The Scientific Illustration Consortium is a group of scientific illustrators dedicated to the accurate display, interpretation, and visual explanation of natural science.


The scientific illustrators associated with SIC are graduates of accredited universities with top-tier programs in medical and scientific illustration. Past clients have included university researchers, science museums, hospitals, and publishing houses.

Patricia Ferrer Beals

Patricia Ferrer Beals directs the day-to-day logistics, stock image research, and project management of all assignments. Patricia's the driving force that keeps the scientific illustrators of SIC on-track, and the positive attitude that keeps clients coming back.

Patricia received a dual degree in Graphic Communications (BFA) and Biology (BA) from Washington University. She received her M.F.A. in Medical and Biological Illustration from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. She's taught numerous undergrad and graduate level classes at the University of Michigan Art School, including multiple international field-sketching courses from Costa Rica to Southern Africa.

She spent 3 years at the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum as the Interactive Media Coordinator developing science-related educational programs for children. From there, she went on to a full-time, four year appointment with the Education Team at the University of Michigan's Matthaei Botanical Gardens and Nichol's Arboretum, as Interpretation and Exhibit Coordinator. There she specialized in graphic design, and scientific illustration for exhibits.

Patricia’s medical and scientific illustration has been featured in numerous solo and juried exhibits. She's experienced in medical, botanical, ichthyological, mammalian, entomological, ornithological, and web-based illustration.
